Featured Wine (Addendum)!

April 12, 2010

For those who have read my last post on the 2009 Las Colinas del Ebro Garnacha Blanca take notice! Tonight I drank the 2008 Las Colinas del Ebro Syrah/Garnacha (again, from Terra Alta) and it is equally as good! I have been wanting to try this wine for a bit so I decided to throw together an Indian tikka masala and bust out this wine. Again, a great match! This wine is 60% Syrah and 40% Garnacha Negra (again, old vines) and is aged for three months in French and American oak. It conjurs up images of ripe red fruits and spice on the nose. On the palate the flavors amplify with the same red fruit and spice along with a nice finish of vanilla. The wine is not overly complex but does not need to be. It is a beautiful combination of traditionally Catalan varietals that produce an equally wonderful (and expressive) wine with a medium finish. The pairing was excellent as the spice of the wine was enhanced by that of the food, but neither overpowered the other. If you are currently in the hunt for the Garnacha Blanca might I suggest that you seek this one out, too. Drink the former in the afternoon and the latter for dinner! Enjoy.  I know I have and will again soon!

Life is short. Drink Spanish wine!
